Education: The Circle is the universe that I explore through my paintings and drawings. However, I do not see it as a motif but rather as a trace of my physical movement; the physical execution of my work. Through the repetition of that movement, as though repeating a mantra, I attain a concentration that allows the visual power of the image to emerge. Therefore, my art is as much about the work process itself as it is about the images that are created. I often work in series in order to explore colour palates with differing characteristics, such as very dark and black palates in contrast to those of silvery, shimmering mother of pearl. As I work, I apply these ranges of colour in several thin layers until I am able to feel a type of silent pulse coming from the painting. This pulse allows the viewer to experience the painting’s “vibrations.”
My art is not representative, nor does it relate to the world we know — each painting is a new and unique world in and of itself.
