Sopro Part 08, 2015, HD video, 4' 29"
Sopro is a series of nine videos that addresses an idea of danger and fear, since it formulates questions about destruction in the sphere of beliefs.
Ana Rebordão’s body appears as an instrument in order to materialize the images she dreamed of. The performances are visual and framed, which reflects an eye of a painter.
This body of work is an oeuvre with a domestic contour. Most of the times, the viewer is invading a private space where he or she does not belong. It is a poisoned invitation to see a woman on herself, for herself, and letting go herself by performed acts. It is a figure expressing a certain truth within a certain lie. The work sets-up an enigma, a sense of trauma.
From religion to the intimate, Ana Rebordão’s work creates a space that redefines these realities - the familiar crumbles when one receives the unknown. The videos are presenting a narcissistic emptiness – the space of separation and rejection – an ephemeral state of destruction, superficiality and humor absolutely necessary for a being to come; A site. A sopro.
Sopro is a Portuguese word for: Sway of Air; Breath or Sigh; An Influx; A Will (Good or Bad); Power; Strength; Soft Sound.
